Discovery Fundamentals Training: Guidelines
Introduction:
Welcome to the ServiceNow Discovery Fundamentals class.
What we have compiled below is a list of essential references to help preempt potential issues experienced during Discovery Fundamentals. This list has been compiled based on learnings from the numerous Discovery Fundamentals Sessions we have delivered for ServiceNow.
This article is intended for current students of Discovery Fundamentals Training delivered by QuickNexus Instructors.
We have a separate article for issues specifically faced during the Labs.
We constantly update this article, based on learnings from every new Discovery Fundamentals class we teach.
Additional updates are made to this article to accommodate content and syllabus updates by ServiceNow to the Discovery Fundamentals class.
We welcome other Discovery Fundamentals trainers from ServiceNow and other ServiceNow Authorized Training Partners to leverage this article when they deliver their own Discovery Fundamentals training and provide feedback to us, so we can update this article and collectively deliver the best experience for our students!
Guidelines
This class is a one-way audio setup via Zoom, where I will be talking (and typing) and you will be typing. If you need to speak, let me know and I will enable your mic.
If you don’t have your eBook, please reach out to ServiceNow Training asap, based on the instructions in the introduction email.
For the theory sessions, simply focus on my screen. No need to have your eBook or ServiceNow Instance open at this time. There won’t be any need to shuffle between multiple screens during the theory session.
A dual / multi screen setup is advisable for doing labs. If you have only one screen, you can simply leverage a Tablet, so you can reference the eBook there.
During the theory sessions, don’t feel shy to ask questions and challenge the status quo.
For the theory, I will balance the eBook, ServiceNow Demos and Lab walk-thru Videos to make sure we cover everything in the syllabus comprehensively and in a timely manner.
Remember: While I closely monitor the chat while teaching, sometimes, there are many messages coming in. As a result, I may inadvertently miss your message or question. If that happens, please ask it again. The same holds if I haven’t satisfactorily addressed your question.
Message me on the ‘Everyone’ Group in Zoom. This ensures that the questions are visible to everyone and the same responses can be learnt by others in the class. This also prevents the same questions from being asked again and for students to build on questions from other students.
If there are any questions that aren’t specifically aligned with the scope and syllabus of the class, I will tag them for discussion during the Ask-Me-Anything session scheduled the morning of Day 3 (Detailed Timelines below). Take full advantage of this session as it is a perfect balance making sure we:
Are on schedule with the class
Address specific real-world questions that you can apply to your work right-away
Learn more than what is scoped in the syllabus
We will do theory in the morning, followed by Labs in the afternoon (Detailed Timelines below).
There is several reasons we do theory first and labs later in the day, apart from receiving positive feedback for delivering the class this way:
Covering the concepts to understand how the current steps impacts what is happening next, gives more meaning and context when you are doing the lab.
We have students attending from all over the world, very often in timezones well ahead of central time. This allows for flexibility where those students can continue the labs the next day morning (their local time), prior to class starting.
Independent of timezones, we often have our work and personal responsibilities requiring us to step away during the day. The open afternoon provides the flexibility to balance these along with the commitment of a three-day class.
We will start promptly at 9:00 am Central on each day.
I will step away at 5:00 pm Central, but please keep a note of your questions, so we can address them prior to starting next day’s class.
While you get to keep the eBook, the Lab Instances go-away 24 hours after Day 3 of the class.
You will receive a Survey from ServiceNow on Day 3 of the class. Please take a few minutes to complete it promptly as the Survey remains open for only 24 hours. The Survey is divided into three separate categories:
Instructor Performance
Course Content / Syllabus
Zoom Environment and Connectivity
